  Speeder Excursions

WELCOME to www.railspeeders.com, and the Speeder Excursion Calendar, the internet's most comprehensive source of upcoming Speeder Events.

The following is a list of upcoming "Speeder" events in North America and Australia. We have made every effort to insure accuracy, but mistakes do happen, so we will not be held responsible for errors or omissions.

Please note that virtually all of these events require operators to be qualified by NARCOA and to have valid NARCOA insurance in force. Some of the NARCOA affiliates require membership in their respective organizations. In some cases there are special qualification, equipment and clothing requirements. See respective websites for details. Non-NARCOA events are so noted.

In order to make it easier to pick out newly added events, they will be displayed in BLUE type for a few weeks after they have been added.

5/24/2008 - 5/26/2008
Saturday - Monday
3-Day Event
Camas Prairie Railroad (Idaho)

Sorry, this excursion is full.

This is the third annual Memorial Day Weekend motorcar excursion on three branches of the former Camas Prairie Railroad. The initial set on point will be at the headquarters of the Great Northwest Railroad in East Lewiston. On Saturday we will run the old CSP third sub (now the Great Northwest Riparia branch) Lewiston to Riparia and return, traveling along the Snake River and past two dams for a total of 144 miles. Sunday, we will run Lewiston to Kamiah along the Clearwater River on the former CSP first sub (now the BG&CM Kooskia branch) and return, a total of 129 miles. We will have to trailer our cars to Craigmont for Monday’s trip as the BG&CM is currently storing cars above and below Culdesac. The first leg will run from Craigmont to milepost 18, turn on a planked area there and return to Craigmont. This turnaround spot is not a road crossing, hyrail vehicles will be unable to turn at this location. Because of this, any hyrail vehicles in the group will be set off at Reubens and the occupants will catch a ride down the hill and back with motorcars. When the group returns to Reubens, the hyrails will set back on. The second leg is from Craigmont to milepost 44 and return for a day total of 52 miles.

This year both railroads insist that all motorcars and hyrails be capable of turning at the end of each leg of the excursion. Neither railroad wants any equipment operating in an extended reverse movement and because of this, cars that cannot be turned will not be allowed to participate. Also this year we require that hyrail vehicles comply with rule 12.1 (E) of the NARCOA operations handbook and carry enough blocking and other materials needed to re-rail the vehicle in case of derailment. We strongly urge all A series cars to do the same.

Packets with itinerary, motels, restaurants, camping spots and maps will be mailed after payment is received. As before, Lewis Clark State College is hosting the NAIA college baseball world series the same weekend. Once the field is set, the teams and fans will start to reserve rooms in Lewiston. Usually by the first of May, all available rooms are booked for this weekend.
02-13
This ride is limited to 32 cars.
Equipment Restrictions/Requirements: spark arrestors and mechanically sound motorcars with all the specified NARCOA equipment are required.
The event is sponsored by Pacific Railcar Operators (PRO). NARCOA insurance and rules apply.
Additional information: A waiting list will be maintained on a first come – first served basis and late entries will be notified of their status on the waiting list. no refunds will be issued after May 1, 2008 unless the vacancy can be filled from the waiting list. Make checks payable to Pacific Railcar Operators and mail to the meet coordinator. Alt contact is Jim Morefield, (208) 743-0802, jmorefield@cableone.net.
The price of the trip is $295.

This will be over part of the original Northern Pacific main line and currently MRL's secondary main line west of Missoula. (also 60 r/trip miles)

Finger Lakes Railway (New York)
As always, the Finger Lakes is going to be of those runs that we try to make a little different each year and this year is no exception. For the past two years we have offered night runs to the old Army Base in Kandaia. And we have had request to see what it looks like during the day. Saturday morning you will have your wish. And in late morning we will head for Cayuga Lake and the same BBQ as last year. Well venture out to Auburn and back for a rest in Geneva before our ‘night run’ to the Army Base. Sunday, we will run from Geneva to Victor on the new track that the Finger Lakes started operating last year from the Ontario Central to Victor, NY. Included will be a box lunch from the BBQ caterer. I will have to pass on vote for which is better, the food or the railroad. You be the judge. RT miles is 65 on Saturday an 40 on Sunday.
Approximate round trip mileage for this excursion is 105 miles.
NARCOA insurance and rules apply.
The price of the trip is $175. Price includes The BBQ and the box lunches for Sunday.
