Getting ready for our group of 17 cars to leave the Chihuahua railroad station.

Our stop at the pleasant town of Cuauhtemoc. I cannot pronounce it either!

One of the tall trestles located in open country on the way west to Creel.

Hobos riding the tops of freight cars. Others were riding under the ends of hoppers. There may have been a dozen or so.

Norma and Ken Huffines were married shortly before this trip.

Will and Debbie Hookway MT19 car (ex Jack Whitt) and the Dick and Helen Ray leased Woodings CBL with Honda power wait on a siding.

One of the frequent RV trains that we encountered. They live and travel in the RVs but get meals at the hotels.

Early morning in Creel (7669 feet elevation) liooking west.

At the loop, looking down from the upper track.

Woodings exiting "tunnel" on lower level. Picture by Keith Mackey.

The Rock. It may have been carved and placed by the construction gang, or it might be a natural formation.

A passenger train leaving Divisadero.

The lobby of the Hotel Posada Mirador, with Mad Dog Bill in the yellow shirt.

Bernie Leadon and Will Hookway admiring the canyon view from the terrace.

Hoppy Hopkins, Bernie Leadon, Will, and Helen Ray admiring the view from the terrace.

Hotel Posada Mirador from below. Every room has a private balcony.

View of hotel from a viewpoint.

Canyon is reflected in the window. Jim Coady, Hal Johnson, Debbie Hookway, Helen Ray, and Keith Mackey relaxing on the terrace.

Evening entertainment.

Kids were let out of school and brought to the station at San Rafael to see us. This is a major crew change point and engine service facility. The town seemed to be fairly prosperous.

View from a high trestle. Anyone want to climb down that ladder?

A slide had taken out the tunnel mouth, so it was being rebuilt. Still heading west and going down the other side of the mountains

The bridge at Temoris Station with a lone Ferromex motorcar heading out.

One of the classic shots of the Temoris area showing three track levels and the monument, which is in the shape of the state of Chihuahua when viewed from below.

Crossing the Rio Chinapas bridge, highest on the railroad at 350 feet.

Crossing the Rio Fuerte bridge, longest on the railroad at 1637 feet.

At El Fuerte, Helen is dancing with Zorro in the pool/dining area of the Hotel Posada del Hidalgo at El Fuerte.

After dinner in the outdoor thatched-roof area at El Fuerte. Deb and Helen smiling, Keith looks happy, Renda looks ready for bed, and Smilin' Will. Look at the size of those wine glasses!

Will on horse. The kid wanted pesos, of course!

Carol and David Balestreri.

John Von Briesen and Sallye Perrin

Around the loop at Tompolombampo with the bay in the distance.

Kids from a rural village came out to see us while we waited for a train.

Helen and Dick were locked into their section of the El Fuerte hotel, twice!

Renda and Keith relaxing while we await a train.

Will and Debbie Hookway

Helen and Dick Ray with leased Woodings

Tunnels above Temoris Station

Bridges and tunnels

Bridge and Tunnel

Passing a work gang with their A-series motorcar.

This passenget train was waiting for us to take the siding. Normally we waited for them.

On the platform at Bahuichivo, headed for the bus to the Hotel Mison.

In the church at Cerocahui. It dates back to 1690, although it has been improved since.

The courtyard of the mission. Our hotel is the white building on the left.

Vinyard area behind the Hotel Mision with tall prickly pear cactus.

The pathway to our room at Cerocahui. Heat is from a wood stove only and the staff will supply the woof, as well as build the fire for you.

A passenger train meet as we leave Bahuichivo

Karen and Alan Wilbur

Mark and Karen Werner

Mark and Diann Sorensen

Train meet near one of the continental divide crossings.

Hoppy with kids at one of our stops. Note traditional and modern dress.

One of the Continental Divide crossings at 7900 feet.

Lobby at the Best Western Hotel in Creel.

We are gathered in the bar area of the Best Western hotel, on the back side of the huge fireplace.

Ice on the Woodings windshield as we start our last day on the rails.

Deparing Creel in the fog.

A church at one of the towns going east. San Juanito?

The Folding Facility Enclosure (FFE) in use. It folds up easily into a very small package and stows behing the seat.

One of the hazards. Despite fences cows and pigs run free.

Time to record the other attendees. Ralph and Barb Dunphy with Tom Ferrier.

Jim Coady and Hal Johnson

Mad Dog Bill Kozel and John Kook

Kathy and Pat Coleman

Ginni and Doug Davlin with some ladies hamming it up in the background. It was not THAT chilly!

Diane and Hoppy Hopkins

Ted Elzinga and Chuck Lee

Bernie Leadon

Deb Hookway waves goodby while saying, "See you on the rails in '06."

Our first meet with a freight.
